Parenteral Vitamins

Description

It is a potent Multivitamin injectable that is meant to be given by slow IV infusion after appropriate dilution for faster tissue repair, strengthening immunity and antioxidant protection.

Indications

  • Perioperative nutrition support
  • As an adjunctive special nutritional support in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and severe malnutrition.
  • Hypercatabolic states such as burns, sepsis, severe trauma, major surgery etc.
  • GI tract surgical resections and other surgical procedures
  • As part of Total Parenteral Nutrition

Recommended Dosage

Recommended dosage is one ampoule per day after appropriate dilution with IV fluids. The contents of one ampoule should be added to not less than 500 ml of infusion fluid. IV infusion should be carried out slowly after appropriate dilution.

Safety

Maximin Infusion is generally effective with a desirable tolerability profile. Drug interactions may occur with other antiepileptics and other medications. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to either drug, porphyria, restlessness or abnormal reactions to phenobarbitone or other barbiturates, severe renal and hepatic impairment and severe myocardial dysfunction.

Caution advised in the elderly or severely ill patients, pregnancy, mild to moderate renal or hepatic dysfunction, in alcoholics and drug addicts.

Use in pregnancy: Congenital deformities may occur with many anticonvulsants. On the other hand, stopping anticonvulsant treatment during pregnancy may result in increased convulsions, abortion and even status epilepticus. The decision to stop or continue Maximin Infusion during pregnancy should be taken on an individual patient basis after appropriately weighing the risk-benefit ratio.

Sedation, irritation, aggressiveness, depression, confusion, rash, dyskinesia, anaemia, hepatitis are known to occur with Maximin Infusion occasionally. Gum hyperplasia may occur especially in children. CNS effects include nystagmus, ataxia, vertigo and double vision. Very rarely severe hepatitis, severe skin reactions and agranulocytosis may also occur.

Presentation

Available in ampoules of 10 ml each. 5 ampoules per pack (5 X 10ml)

Vitamin A concentrate BP (oily form) 1100 I.U.
Cholecalciferol BP 100 I.U.
Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate BP 0.5 mg
Thiamine Hydrochloride BP 5.0 mg
Riboflavine Phosphate Sodium BP 1.4 mg
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride BP 1.65 mg
Ascorbic Acid BP 50 mg
Niacinamide BP 10 mg
D Panthenol BP 2.5 mg
Benzyl Alcohol BP
(as preservative)
1% v/v
Water for Injection BP
Appropriate overages added
