Description

Nasal Decongestant - Topical

Indications

    In nasal congestion due to
  • Common Cold (Viral Rhinitis)
As a co-prescription in
  • Acute Sinusitis
  • Allergic Rhinitis
Also in prevention of Otitic barotrauma

Recommended Dosage

For the age group 6 years and above:
2 or 3 drops in each nostril every 10 - 12 hours (usually in the morning and evening), not to exceed twice in 24 hours
Drops should be applied to the lower nostril with the patient in a lateral head low position. The patient should remain in same position for 5 minutes, and then the solution should be applied to the other nostril in a similar manner. Alternatively drops may be instilled when the patient is reclining with the head tilted back as far as possible. Oxymetazoline should be used in adults and children 6 years of age and older. Oxymetazoline should not be used for self medication for longer than 3 days; if symptoms persist the drug should be discontinued and a clinician consulted
